Groudon is Badass by Epifex Groudon is Badass by Epifex
Groudon is badass, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.

I could've kept adding to and improving this forever, but I wanted to get the damn thing finished and I figured that there has to come a point where I call it a day. It's definitely far from perfect, and there's always room for improvement, but that's why I keep drawing. So yeah. Groudon is badass.

Considering what Groudon actually does (essentially be an earth god/kaiju), this makes way more sense than its official size.

At least Groudon is a reasonable size unlike such pokemon like Nidoking which is a measly 4 foot 7 and Machamp which is just 5 foot 3

It doesn't exactly look angry or anything, it just looks curious, like it noticed something small and fascinating.

Though no Pokémon (yet) is actually that big according to the Pokédex, Groudon is certainly one of the biggest. And super-powerful to boot.

Instant-use Solarbeam can kick Kyogre's tail anyday.

As wonderful as instatnt-use solarbeam is, the unfortunate fact of the matter is that Groudon is a physical attack specialist, not special attack. It's also the case that Kyogre has a very high special defense and special attack. As such, Groudon's only powerful super effective move against Kyogre doesn't have STAB, isn't based on his highest attack stat', and is hitting a very special defensive Pokemon, so unless both of them have had some very strange EV training, a one hit KO isn't likely. Kyogre, on the other hand, can Rain-dance STAB hydro-pump and draw from its formidable special attack stat, so a one hit KO is far more likely.

I love Groudon, but he has a very unfortunate disadvantage against Kyogre in battle.

Gen 3 has special and physical attacks as well. Y U SO CONFUSED? xD
Physical = something like bite, tackle, or scratch.
Special = things such as hydro pump, solar beam, or flamethrower.
You pickin' up what I'm puttin' down?

Well, y'know there's an attack stat' and a special attack stat'? Whether a move draws from the attack or special attack is determined by whether or not that move is physical. In generation 4 and higher, each move had its own classification as special or physical. In generation 3 and below, however, it depended on the type. So even if I used vine whip, which is a grass type and seems like it would be physical, it would actually depend on the special attack stat'.

Solarbeam, being a special move, and remaining a special move even when you have him in a generation 4 game, isn't particularly effective on Groudon, since he has an average special attack stat', and Kyogre has a monstrous special defence.

I always thought of Groudon about this size. Forget pokedex description; it cant be 100% accurate anyway, since there's a slim chance the in-game professors actually met these things to put down the info in the dex.

... i can word. Basically, dont trust the pokedex :L

To all the people saying he is short. Id like to say this is a how it feels picture. Plus a continent Pokemon, only 10 ft tall. thing would drown in a fight with Kyogre.

Height: 11'06

Unless this a model set, you've drastically messed up the scale.

Epic piece, though.

It was deliberate. 11'06 is waaaaay too small.

But it's the reality of the Pokemon world. Groudon is 11'06", and can draw a mighty heat wave.

And it's not like it's a confirmed fact that Groudon created continents. That's a legend, a myth, and myths are usually far from the truth even if based in reality.

Groudon looks FAR larger in the anime, which is a much better size representation in this case.

I don't really care about the reality of the Pokemon world. Pokemon's hardly known for its consistency or logic. When Groudon's depicted in things like the movies and anime, he's clearly much larger than his official in-game size. I like to think he's much larger than a measly 11 odd feet.

I've not watched the anime episodes in which Groudon appears, but, if you are referring to the Groudon in Jirachi: Wishmaker, then you should know that that is the manifestation of pure evil in the appearance of a Groudon, not necessarily an actual Groudon.

And just because you think Groudon is larger than a measly 11'06" (which isn't "measly") does not mean Groudon is. In fact, for the powers for which he has been shown to have, it's not weird at all. Maybe for the powers that humans have claimed he has but could obviously never know (just like other mythos).

Indeed, there is nothing that has better "canon" than the games themselves. If the games say that a Groudon is 11'06", then it is 11'06". Game canon is the main canon.

Sorry, I'll go call up every artist who ever lived and tell them to draw and paint things exactly true to life and canon, and not to add any of their own ideas at all. That won't make art incredibly boring or anything.

And no, I'm not referring to fake Groudon, I'm referring to real Groudon, who is far, far bigger than 11'06" in the show.

Mmmm, gotta love sarcasm.

I'm not against throwing personal ideas into a piece of art (and I do enjoy your work, so please do not think otherwise). I'm just trying to establish that the actual, "real" Groudon is not nearly as large as you've portrayed him.

Even if the anime portrays Groudon as a being rivaling a skyscraper (likely to make it more entertaining to watch for kids), in actual canon that same Groudon is actually much closer to the height of a decently-sized tree. Game canon trumps anime canon because the anime would not exist without the game. This height discrepancy is just another contradiction to established game canon.

He may be waaay too small for a Pokemon who supposedly created continents, but that just opens up the very real possibility that Groudon did not create continents. Same goes for other legendaries who are said to have done something awe-inspiring in mythos.

I understand that officially he may be that bug, but I also think that is way too small. Anyway, Pokemon is hardly known for its consistency and logic, and it's a clear fact that size is no relation to power (just look at celebi or jirachi), so I think it was well within Groudon's abilities to do all that crap even if he was just 11 feet tall.

Like, he's powerful enough to induce burning sunlight across a good chunk of an entire region, so I don't see why he couldn't have lived up to his other legemds.
